President and Chair of the Board of Directors
Sir Danny Alexander
Vice President, Policy and Strategy
Alexander, as Vice President for Policy and Strategy, drives AIIB’s strategic direction, including its sectoral and country priorities, investment strategy and programming, and operating budget. He oversees AIIB’s environmental and social policies, other operational policies and their implementation. Previously, Alexander served as AIIB’s Vice President and Corporate Secretary when he first joined the Bank in February 2016. Before this, he was Chief Secretary to the Treasury of the United Kingdom and was one of the leaders of UK’s coalition government between 2010 and 2015. He holds a BA in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of Oxford and is an honorary fellow of St Anne’s College, Oxford. He was knighted in 2015. Alexander is from the United Kingdom.
Vice President, Investment Operations (Region 2)
Limitovskiy is Vice President, Investment Operations (Region 2) where he oversees the entire project cycle for sovereign and nonsovereign investments in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Central Asia, East Asia, West Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America. He also has joint oversight with the VP for Investment Operations (Region 1) over the Social Infrastructure, Operational Services, and Implementation Monitoring departments. Prior to this role, he was Chief Programming Officer and Senior Advisor to the President of AIIB, heading the Client Relations and Programming Office. Konstantin joined AIIB in November 2018 from the Eurasian Development Bank where he was Deputy Chairman leading business activities in infrastructure. Before that, he was responsible for international project finance at the VTB Group in Russia. Over the challenging period of 2009-2010, he was involved in managing the real estate loan portfolio of Sberbank and established the infrastructure finance practice there. Before that, he helped develop and headed leveraged and structured finance operations for Gazprombank and Alfa Bank. Prior to that, he led banking activities in infrastructure finance at the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, an international development bank based in Greece. He is a graduate of the Russian Finance University. He also holds an MA degree in geophysics. Limitovskiy is from Russia.
Urjit R. Patel
Vice President, Investment Operations (Region 1)
Patel oversees all sovereign and nonsovereign lending in South Asia, the Pacific Islands and South East Asia. He is also responsible for the end-to-end management of AIIB’s project pipeline in these regions, from identification to implementation. He also has joint oversight with the VP for Investment Operations (Region 2) over the Social Infrastructure, Operational Services, and Implementation Monitoring departments. From 2016-2018, Patel was the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, after serving as its Deputy Governor from 2013-2016. He has extensive experience in both the infrastructure and energy sectors, having served as President (Business Development) at Reliance Industries Limited from 2007-2011 and Executive Director and member of the Management Committee of the Infrastructure Development Finance Company Ltd. from 1997-2006. He recently served as independent director in various publicly listed private-sector corporations.
Patel received his Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University. In 2019 he was awarded the Wilbur Cross Medal by Yale University; and he is an Honorary Fellow of Linacre College, University of Oxford. From 2009-2012 he was Nonresident Senior Fellow, The Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C. He has authored scholarly publications and papers in the areas of public finance, infrastructure, regulatory economics, monetary policy, global financial safety net, economics of climate change and theory of international trade. Patel is from India.
Vice President and Corporate Secretary
Schuknecht is responsible for AIIB’s relations with its Members, the Board of Governors, the Board of Directors, other aspects of governance including the admission of new Members and the integrity of the Bank’s governance. Before joining AIIB in August 2021, he has held important leadership posts at the national and international levels. Most recently, he was a Visiting Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore. Prior to this role, he was Deputy Secretary-General at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and was previously Chief Economist and Director General of Germany’s Federal Finance Ministry. He has extensive experience working with international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization. He also acted as the Chief Negotiator for Germany in the founding of AIIB, making him one of the architects of AIIB and one of the drafters of its Articles of Agreement. In addition, Schuknecht was Co-chair of the Infrastructure Investment Working Group of the G20. He holds a Vordiplom in Economics from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany; an MA in Economics from George Mason University, USA; and a Ph.D in Economics and a Habilitation in Economics from Universität Konstanz, Germany. Schuknecht is from Germany.
Dr. Luky Eko Wuryanto
Vice President and Chief Administration Officer
Wuryanto is responsible for overseeing human resources, information technology and facilities and administration services. In this position, Wuryanto is also chair of the Information Technology Committee and the Human Resources Review Committee. Before joining AIIB in April 2016, Wuryanto served in senior positions in the Indonesian government for more than 20 years, most recently as the Deputy Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure Acceleration and Regional Development, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. He has an undergraduate degree in engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology and a PhD in regional science from Cornell University. Wuryanto is from Indonesia.
